A mapping method for distributed heterogeneous systems

چکیده
We present a method to characterize a distributed program for evaluating processes to processors allocation strategies in a heterogeneous computing system. The method is based on a Generalized Stochastic Petri Net model of the given hardware/software connguration. The model is used to compute various performance indices, depending on the nature of the application. Model analysis is carried out either analytically or on a simulation basis. The proposed technique is automated to a large extent. Distributed heterogeneous computing seems to be an eeective approach to supercom-puting, and/or to improve utilization of available hardware 1]. A Distributed Heterogeneous System (DHS) is a collection of diierent machines, usually interconnected via local or wide-area networks, which can be programmed on behalf of a single application, as if it were a global \virtual" computational resource. EEcient programming tools have been developed for this purpose in the last years 2], and industrial standards are being developed 3]. Nevertheless distribution and heterogeneity rise a number of problems and issues 4]. Among them, optimal resource management is one of the most diicult to solve; indeed allocation problems are known to be generally intractable, and scheduling and task allocation theory for such systems are rapidly expanding research areas 5{7]. In a DHS the goal of the task allocation problem is usually to determine the hard-ware/software connguration which minimizes the global execution cost of an application. The parameters that characterize the application and the hardware connguration are diicult to compute analytically, especially if the distributed program behavior is non-deterministic, or if it in turns depends on the allocation scheme. For this reason, modeling and simulation tools are needed as an aid in the design and evaluation of a concurrent application. In this paper we present a method to compute processing and communication parameters , as well as overall performance indices of a given hardware/software distributed

متن کاملA new Shuffled Genetic-based Task Scheduling Algorithm in Heterogeneous Distributed Systems
Distributed systems such as Grid- and Cloud Computing provision web services to their users in all of the world. One of the most important concerns which service providers encounter is to handle total cost of ownership (TCO). The large part of TCO is related to power consumption due to inefficient resource management. Task scheduling module as a key component can has drastic impact on both user...
متن کاملHybrid Meta-heuristic Algorithm for Task Assignment Problem
Task assignment problem (TAP) involves assigning a number of tasks to a number of processors in distributed computing systems and its objective is to minimize the sum of the total execution and communication costs, subject to all of the resource constraints. TAP is a combinatorial optimization problem and NP-complete. This paper proposes a hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm for solving TAP in a ...

Hadoop MapReduce framework is an important distributed processing model for large-scale data intensive applications. The current Hadoop and the existing Hadoop distributed file system’s rack-aware data placement strategy in MapReduce in the homogeneous Hadoop cluster assume that each node in a cluster has the same computing capacity and a same workload is assigned to each node. Default Hadoop d...
متن کاملA Static Mapping Heuristic for Mapping Parallel Applications to Heterogeneous Computing Systems
To minimize the execution time of a parallel application running on a heterogeneous computing distributed system, an appropriate mapping scheme to allocate the application tasks to the processors is needed. The general problem of mapping tasks to machines is a well known NP-hard problem and several heuristics have been proposed to approximate its optimal solution. In this paper we propose a sta...
متن کاملMap-merging in Multi-robot Simultaneous Localization and Mapping Process Using Two Heterogeneous Ground Robots
In this article, a fast and reliable map-merging algorithm is proposed to produce a global two dimensional map of an indoor environment in a multi-robot simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) process. In SLAM process, to find its way in this environment, a robot should be able to determine its position relative to a map formed from its observations. To solve this complex problem, simultan...
